In this talk, I will present our recently progress in urban trajectory data analytics in a collaborative NSF project with Kent State University. TrajGraph and SemanticTraj, two visual analytics approaches to exploring taxi trajectory data for transportation and urban planning, will be introduced. TrajGraph (presented at VAST 2015) studies urban mobility patterns by integrating graph modeling and analysis with interactive visual explorations. SemanticTraj (presented at VAST 2016) converts taxi trajectories into taxi documents indexed by a text search engine, so that users can conduct flexible semantic rich queries through the search engine for interactive visual explorations.
