Alan MacEachren, Penn State University
Alan M. MacEachren is an American geographer, Professor of Geography and Director, GeoVISTA Center, Department of Geography, The Pennsylvania State University. He is known for his cross-disciplinary work in the fields of human-centered geographic visualization, scientific and information visualization, and in statistics. He was one of the founders of the field of visual analytics. Dr. MacEachren is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and an Honorary Fellow of the International Cartographic Association (6th Fellow from U.S. since 1974). He wrote the book, How Maps Work, which is considered a classic in its presentation of maps as powerful, abstract, and synthetic spatial representations.
